It looks like
Space Harrier, the classic arcade rail shooter from 1985, will soon be blasting its way onto the Nintendo 3DS.
According to a report on Japanese site
Gamer (subsequently translated by a member of the
NeoGAF forum), this beloved third-person shooter will be part of the rumoured Sega 3D Classics series for 3DS.
If you're too young to remember anything before Master Chief,
Space Harrier was a slightly barmy arcade title in the vein of
After Burner. Only, it starred a floaty blonde dude instead of a fighter plane.

As you might expect,
Space Harrier will be getting the autostereoscopic treatment - marking the first time the series has ventured into 3D territory since the Master System days.
Though there are few details at present for
Space Harrier on 3DS, it is stated in the abovementioned
Gamer article that this version of
Space Harrier will support widescreen displays, and will be available for download from the Nintendo eShop.
A release date for
Space Harrier on 3DS has not been revealed yet, though.
