Pokemon Sun and Moon smashes Nintendo's record as the fastest selling game in the Americas

Pokemon Sun and Moon are the most popular of Nintendo's titles to hit the UK and the most pre-ordered game in its history...and now it's official that they've now broken another of Nintendo's personal records.

Twenty years after Pokemon Red and Blue released into the world, Sun and Moon has wiped the floor with its sale figures, coming in at a whopping 3.7 million copies in America in just a fortnight. If that doesn't deserve an 'oh my god' I don't know what does.

The latest report by Nintendo states: "In less than two weeks, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold a combined total of 3.7 million units. That's an 85 percent increase over Pokemon X and Pokemon Y – the previous record holders for Nintendo's fastest-selling games – during the same period when those games launched in 2013."

Sales in Europe and Japan have been equally as exceptional, pushing nearly half a million in the UK, 1.5 million in Europe, and 1.9 million in Japan.

It'll be interesting to see the reports after the holiday period is over and whether this was a huge jump in sales due to the hype, or whether figured will remain steady as 2017 commences.

Considering its rumoured Switch-exclusive Pokemon game is still on the table, I think Nintendo may have a rather good year.
