After 13 years in service, Nintendo is set to shut down its loyalty programme Club Nintendo in Europe and the US, and will replace it with a new one later this year.

If you forgot, Club Nintendo is the service where you register games and consoles to earn stars, which you can use to buy exclusive goodies like, erm, keyrings and notepads.

From April 1st, Nintendo will no longer include those red product registration cards with its packaged games. And from April 20th, you'll no longer be able to get stars by registering eShop games.

And then on September 30th, the programme will shut down altogether and your stars balance will expire so if you want a Luigi bathrobe or a Pikmin 3 ringtone you should probably go get them.

Actually, there are some pretty cool items on there right now including a dashing Mario Kart 8 t-shirt and a replica Game & Watch unit. Nintendo also says that it will add more items in the coming months.

When the new programme launches, early adopters will be able to download Flipnote Studio 3D for free.
