Nintendo's new 3DS theme designer is a money-making masterpiece
Sticker Star Saga
A new 3DS app in Japan turns your console into a virtual crane machine, as you pile in real-world money in the hopes of unlocking Mario and Animal Crossing stickers.
Those gooey adhesive images can then be used to make your very own homescreen themes like you're decorating a school folder and you've also time travelled back to the 1980s.
According to Nintendo World Report, the app is free to download but it costs 90 yen (about 50p) to get five goes on one of them crane games from Toy Story. The goal is to nab stickers featuring Mario, Toad, Isabelle, and Tom Nook, to add them to your collection.
It's all part of Nintendo's trepidatious first steps into the wacky world of free to play. Previously, it made a game where you could haggle with a grumpy dog to make the in-app purchases cheaper.
No word on whether Home Menu Kazareru Badge Toreru Center will appear outside of Japan. But for the sake of every Nintendo fan's wallets, I sincerely hope it doesn't.
