Nintendo of America has announced that it's implanting a new sports video service for 3DS owners.

This highlight offering will be available for streaming via Nintendo Zone starting tomorrow, April 14th.

3DS owners will be able to access a new sports content area of the Nintendo zone to receive video updates on basketball, baseball, and soccer.

Although the press release does not state the content will be available in 3D, it does promise exclusive 3D images highlighting the sports news of the week, which users can download to their systems or memory cards.

In addition, the new service will feature top ten play recaps and weekly sports news roundups.

In the zone

3DS-owning sports fans looking to watch the new content will need to travel to one of the 27,000 Nintendo Zone locations found in restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, airports and malls (a handy locator can be accessed here).

Once connected, they can enjoy sports highlights from NBA Digital, MLB.com, and Barclays Premiere League (Fox Soccer) for free.

There is no word from Nintendo as to when - or if - plans to roll out a similar service to 3DS owners in Europe will begin.
