Whilst Nintendo famously declines year after year to attend the annual Tokyo Game Show, it has today formally revealed a slew of content for its 3DS system at its pre-TGS 2011 press conference.

It didn't take a huge leap of imagination to envision a certain rotund plumber might be involved in Nintendo's press conference. In fact, nearly everywhere you looked during the presser, the cheerful Italian's mug was staring right back at you.

High five

In total, Nintendo mentioned, dated, and announced five new Mario games: Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Mario Tennis, Paper Mario, and Mario and Sonic at the London Olympics.

Nintendo head honcho Satoru Iwata took to the stage and announced that Super Mario Land 3D will be coming to the 3DS on November 1st, assuring those in attendance that the 3D effect will be utilised with real meaning in this adventure. He also mentioned that the game will feature finely tuned camera controls.

If go-karting is more your thing, then Mario still has you covered. Underwater racing and kart customisation are the two new elements introduced in Mario Kart 7. It’ll be out in Japan on December 1st, and will feature Mii avatar-based online multiplayer.

Nintendo also confirmed that the 3DS editions of Mario Tennis (replete with gyroscopic controls), Paper Mario, and Mario and Sonic at the London Olympics will drop 'next year'. No more, no less.
