Hackers get R4 flash cards running on Nintendo 3DS within hours of launch

Videos show Japanese gamers using their 'back-up devices'

Just hours after the Japanese Nintendo 3DS launch, the handheld console has been hacked for use with the infamous R4 cards.

A number of videos have been posted up on YouTube, showing gamers using their R4 flash cards with the new Nintendo kit.

It's worth noting that these cards can only be used to play DS games, and not 3DS titles - at least for now.

The Nintendo 3DS is backwards compatible, with all original DS and DSi software available to play on the new system. That's how hackers have managed to get the R4 cards working with the new hardware so quickly.

The R4 cards were made illegal in the UK last year, with the London High Court ruling that importation, advertising, and sales of game copying devices were no longer lawful.

Not much of a surprise really. I can only see this driving up demand for early units.
