Speaking at its annual press event in Tokyo, Nintendo has revealed the release date and price of the 3DS.

It's coming on February 28th in Japan, and it'll cost 25,000 yen (the equivalent of £189) - 25 per cent more than the DSi cost at launch.

No UK price has been revealed, but since the DSi was £150 it's probably reasonable to expect a launch price of £200. Analysts have estimated that the handheld will cost around $250/£180.

Along with the handheld itself, Nintendo is packing in a 2GB SD card. Along with providing extra storage capacity for your Nintendo 3DS, including an SD card is also meant to encourage sharing data with Nintendo's Wii console.

The Nintendo 3DS will launch in Europe and North America in March.
