A third-party Japanese bonanza

Incoming! The most exciting 3DS games for July 2015

3DS

This is shaping up to be a distinctly Japanese month for 3DS, which I'm certainly not one to complain about.

I will, however, complain about The Binding of Isaac not being guaranteed for Europe yet. It took Nicalis a loooong time to release Cave Story on 3DS in Europe, which leaves me a tad concerned.

The eShop's buzzing with third-party content, though, which is what I love to see. Karous, Mighty Gunvolt, and Streets of Rage 2 will most definitely be keeping me busy this month.

Karous -The Beast of Re:Eden-
MileStone Inc. / CIRCLE Entertainment - 2nd (Europe)

What we have here is a solid outing for shmup fans. It's not got that many frills, and it doesn't touch the likes of Ikaruga, but if you're a fan of the genre and your fingers are twitching for this Dreamcast gem you may be in for a treat.

Mercenaries Saga 2
Ride On / CIRCLE Entertainment - 2nd (North America)

Even for an expanded mobile title, this turn-based strategy RPG does a pretty good job of mimicking the classic Final Fantasy Tactics in both looks and design. Expect the 32 chapters of story mode to keep you busy for a fair while.

Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity in Chains
Spike Chunsoft / Atlus - 2nd (Europe)

Quite the mouthful. This is the Attack on Titan game that launched in the US last month. It's here under a different title thanks to the ol' European copyright issues.

This'll be a must have for fans of the series, especially if you have a few friends who'd like to get in on the co-op action too. Defending your city walls from huge titans with your pals sounds a lot more fun than going solo.

Mighty Gunvolt
Inti Creates - 3rd (Europe)

This 8-bit cousin of Azure Striker Gunvolt is from the man behind Mega Man, Keiji Inafune. It's a short and sweet retro action platformer. If that sound like your cuppa, you're in for a treat.

3D Streets of Rage 2
M2 / SEGA - 16th (Europe, North America)

M2 keeps pumping out these reworked SEGA classics, and I keep buying them. Streets of Rage 2 is often considered the best brawler out there, so beat 'em up fans take note. This should be one of the best entries this season of 3D Classics.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Nicalis - 23rd (North America)

Long rumoured to be cancelled, this disturbingly dark Zelda-esque dungeon roguelikelike is finally arriving on 3DS. Well, New 3DS to be precise.

The 3DS's two-screen layout means a lot less clutter on the top screen, with everything bar your hearts appearing on the bottom screen. You can also scribble notes using the touch screen too.

Japanese highlight:

Corpse party BloodCovered: ...Repeated Fear
5pb - 30th (Japan)

Here's an enhanced port of the PSP (and iOS) survival horror cult classic, Corpse Party. Explore haunted school grounds with a band of five students, and work towards one of multiple endings.

The sprites and CG art have been spruced up, and veterans of the series will be glad to find four extra mini-chapters that expand upon the relationships between each of the characters.

Chance for localisation: 55%. With XSEED publishing the original in the West on PSP and Vita, and 5pb publishing it themselves for iOS, I'd say we're in with a fair shot.
