Incoming! The most exciting 3DS games for April 2015
|
3DS

Blimey, what a Nintendo Direct that was! I can't wait for Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and all the new amiibo, even though I'm still catching up with the second and third waves. Will the madness ever end?

There's a bevy of great titles coming out this month, along with some DLC that I really must get into my hands as soon as possible. Even a nifty demo to boot!

If the rest of 2015 stays this strong, we're going to be in gaming bliss all year. Now get out there and turn your StreetPass on!

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
Monster Games Inc. / Nintendo - 2nd (Europe), 10th (North America)

Almost definitely game of the month for most of you out there. Hope you're all rocking New 3DS units, as Xenoblade won't work on the original 3DS or XL.

This RPG was the Wii's swan song, and somehow Nintendo has made it so that we can play it on the go. Prepare yourself for a ridiculous amount of sidequests and a battle system that I still don't quite understand. It's Reyn time!

Box Boy
HAL Laboratory, Inc. / Nintendo - 2nd (North America, Europe)

A minimalist, monochromatic, 2D puzzle platformer from the Kirby deveveloper. Poop out boxes to solve 150 stages worth puzzles. No really, it looks like you poop 'em out.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon
Spike Chunsoft / Atlus - 2nd (North America)

The crossover tradition continues. If you're a fan of the Etrian Odyssey or Mystery Dungeon series you're undoubtedly already sold on this.

If not, expect dungeon crawling and a deep character class system. You might be better off starting with titles from each series separately though.

Excave II: Wizard of the Underworld
Mechanic Arms / Bergsala-Lightweight - 2nd (North America)

Oh, so this is why Excave finally made it to the European eShop last month. Expect more hacking, slashing, and inventory management in this dungeon RPG.

Pokémon Rumble World
The Pokémon Company / Nintendo - 8th (North America, Europe)

Get your body ready for PokéDiamonds as the toy Pokémon battler is back... as a free-to-play game. Sounds a little dubious, I know, but I'm also a big fan of these titles.

Bash and collect what looks like every Pokémon and Mega Evolution released so far in various field stages. That's right, we're finally rid of the crummy arenas from the Wii U version!

It's somewhat surprising that no amiibo compatibility has been announced for this yet, considering the Wii U version made full use of the NFC reader. Hmm.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS DLC
Bandai Namco Games / Nintendo - 15th, 28th (North America, Europe)

First up we've got the Mii Fighter Costume Bundle #1, due out on the 15th. It includes costumes from the Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, and Xenoblade games, as well as some other odds and ends.

Later in the month on the 28th Mewtwo will join the battle, ready and able to Mega Evolve for Final Smashing. Remember - Mewtwo's free if you've already bought both the Wii U and 3DS versions.

StreetPass Mii Plaza DLC
Prope / Good-Feel / Nintendo - 16th (North America, Europe)

I s'pose this is more of a big deal in Japan, where you're likely to StreetPass people every moment of the day, but gosh darn it I still love these minigames.

Ultimate Angler (StreetPass Fishing in Europe) comes with over 150 fish to catch, and it sounds like there may be a cameo or two. Fingers crossed for the Hylian Loach.

Battleground Z (StreetPass Zombies in Europe) is an action game where each Mii's weapons are based on the personal hobby field in their profile. Because zombies.

StreetPass Mii Plaza Premium is also being added, allowing you to tag up to 100 Miis as VIPs, as well as store their birthday information. Looks like new hats are coming too! HATS!

A-Train: City Simulator
Artdink / Natsume - April (North America)

No, this is not a joke entry. I loved the version of A-Train that made it to the Xbox 360 in Europe, and this neat li'l transport management sim looks like it'll fit the bill for 3DS.

3D Fantasy Zone II
M2 / SEGA - April (North America, Europe)

The SEGA arcade classics keep on coming. If you enjoyed 3D Fantasy Zone... well, why not shell out another fiver for this one ya big loon? I know I will.

Puzzle and Dragons Z & Super Mario Bros. Edition Demo
GungHo / Nintendo - 30th (North America, Europe)

We don't usually include demos here but this is a little special. The Japanese phenomenon Puzzle and Dragons will finally hit the 3DS next month as a premium title laden with Ninty characters. I can't wait to sample the demo to see what the fuss is.

Japanese highlight:

Rodea the Sky Soldier
Prope / Kadokawa Shoten - 2nd (Japan)

Rodea was long suspected as vapourware despite having been completed years ago. From the studio run by Yuji Naka, co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, this new character looks like it may be the spiritual sequel to NiGHTS into Dreams that SEGA fans have long been hoping for.

Chance for localisation: 97.51% - NIS America has already called dibs on localising the title in North America, where it's due to hit shelves in September. Let's hope it's coming to Europe too.

Right, I'm off to vote for obscure Japanese characters in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. What'll you be buying this month? Let us know in the comments below!
