Incoming! The most exciting 3DS and PS Vita games for September 2013
Scribblenauts Unmasked! FIFA 14! Rayman Legends! Killzone: Mercenary!
I'm going to level with you, 3DS owners: September isn't looking so hot for you. A massive amount of shovelware is just waiting for you to pass it by.
PS Vita owners, on the other hand, can look forward to at least a couple of great titles.
September is, then, definitely 'advantage Vita'.
Of course, new downloadable titles for Vita and 3DS may well be announced and released during the course of the month, so things could change and Ninty could well make it 'deuce'.
Anyway, enough of these US Open tennis references. Here's what you can expect in September on 3DS and Vita.
Young Justice: Legacy
By Warner Bros. - coming to 3DS on September 10th in the US
This is a video game take on the popular animated TV series Young Justice, in which young DC universe superheroes work together to, well, mete out justice. Judging by what I've seen of this game, you're probably going to want to pass on it.
Hot Wheels: World's Best Driver
By Warner Bros. - coming to 3DS on September 17th in the US, and September 20th in the UK
Another kid-friendly title from Warner Bros. And it's a racer that looks fairly intriguing. I'd be wary, however, for Hot Wheels games tend to be sub-par.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
By GameMill Publishing - coming to 3DS on September 17th in the US
The questionable content keeps on coming, folks, as video game movie tie-in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 lands on 3DS this month. I predict oodles of forgettable gameplay that sort of relates to the film in wacky ways.
Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure
By 5th Cell - coming to 3DS on September 24th in the US
This one is a little more interesting. The fifth Scribblenauts game is a collaboration with DC Comics, in which Maxwell works alongside DC superheroes to solve puzzles. One to watch if you love a bit of Scribblenauts.
FIFA 14
By EA Canada - coming to 3DS on September 24th in the UK, and September 27th in the US
Fair warning: the Nintendo 3DS version of FIFA 14 will no doubt be stripped down and completely different from the console version. I'd suggest waiting for reviews before forking out cash for this bag-of-air-kicking simulator.
Girls' Fashion Shoot
By Rising Star Games - coming to 3DS on September 27th in the US
Become the ultimate model professional! Customize styles! Pose on the catwalk! Dye your hair snot green! Eat rancid vegetables! Become the size zero model you always wanted to be! It's all here in Girls' Fashion Shoot.
KickBeat
By Zen Studios - coming to Vita on September 3rd
Zen Studios, a.k.a. the team with the pinball obsession, has decided to branch out into rhythm games. Perhaps it should stick to pinball, as we weren't massively impressed with KickBeat.
Rayman Legends
By Ubisoft Montpellier - coming to Vita on September 3rd in the US, and September 12th in the UK
Rayman Legends is blissful, gorgeous, wonderful, and all kinds of other complimentary words. Note that the PS Vita version of this fantastic platformer has apparently been cut down a slight bit.
Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland
By Gust - coming to Vita on September 3rd in the US, and September 4th in the UK
This Japanese RPG wasn't very well received when it debuted on PS3 last year, so I wouldn't expect this PS Vita port to set the world alight. It does feature new content, though, so it may perhaps be the better of the two versions.
Killzone: Mercenary
By Guerrilla Cambridge - coming to Vita on September 6th in the UK, and September 10th in the US
Hang on a second - you mean to say that a genuinely great first-person shooter is heading to the PS Vita? We can hardly believe it ourselves, either. But, hey, the Killzone series has always been good fun, so we shouldn't be completely surprised.
Dragon Fantasy Book II
By Muteki Corporation - coming to PS Vita on September 10th in the US
Dragon Fantasy Book I was good, but not great. Here's hoping that the second installation in this old school RPG series will tickle our collective fancies a little more.
Valhalla Knights 3
By Xseed Games - coming to Vita on September 24th in the US
The last Valhalla Knights on PSP wasn't especially good, but perhaps this Vita follow-up can set the Japanese RPG franchise back on course. 7-on-7 online battles do sound rather enticing.
FIFA 14
By EA Canada - coming to Vita on September 24th in the UK, and September 27th in the US
I'd probably steer clear of FIFA 14 on PS Vita if I were you. From what I've read, it's essentially FIFA 13 reskinned. Which is pretty lame, let's be honest.
