Nintendo 3DS review: Part 4 - The word on the StreetPass

3DS

No portable console is complete without some kind of wireless functionality these days, and thankfully the 3DS comes fully equipped.

Just like its forebear the DS, it’s capable of connecting almost seamlessly to your local wi-fi network, unlocking online play and other associated activates. However, it’s the innovative StreetPass feature which has generated the most excitement - with good reason.

StreetPass does exactly what it says on the tin – when you’re out and about your seemingly dormant 3DS is constantly checking for nearby machines, and should you encounter another user, data is transferred automatically and effortlessly.

Sadly we weren’t able to put StreetPass through its paces as the UK launch of the machine isn’t until the end of March, but it’s a system which cleverly reinforces what portable gaming is all about – the freedom to venture out into the world with your games. Expect big things.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
