Updated on August 29th at 14:05: Nintendo has told Eurogamer that the new 3DS model and 3DS LL won't be coming to Europe until 2015.

They'll be released in Japan on October 11th 2014.

Original story follows...

Nintendo has just announced that it's releasing two new 3DS models. And both of them have second analogue sticks. Sort of.

Revealed during a Japanese Nintendo Direct the new 3DS and new 3DS LL have some new features that might make you think 'hmmm, I might buy one of those' because they're new.

First up there's a second analogue stick. Or, like a sort of analogue nipple thing. It's called the C-stick and it sits near the buttons on the right-hand side of the device. The first time you see it you won't believe it's an analogue stick, but trust me, it is.

The LL has a 4.8 inch screen and the standard model has a 3.8 inch screen. There's also apparently a wider 3D sweet spot, if you're one of those people who left that on.

There's also NFC built into the device, HTML5 support in the browser, a faster CPU, and MicroSD card support. It also looks like the devices might have removable batteries, which is pretty cool.

There are new games coming out that require you to have this latest lump of hardware as well, so you're either going to have to upgrade or mooch around looking sullen because all of your rich consumer friends are playing the new Xenoblade and you're not.

Most important of all, the buttons on the new 3DS and new 3DS LL are now all colourful. Like a SNES pad. That's worth shelling out for one of them all on its own. Hah, look at that one, it's blue.

We don't have a release date for the shiny new things-what-plays-games, but we will, of course, tell you when we hear.

You can watch the Nintendo Direct broadcast where all of this was announced at the top of the article. So I guess you didn't really have to read this far. I made some pretty good jokes though, right?
