Hot on the heels of its announcement of the 3DS XL, Nintendo has revealed that New Art Academy will be released on the 3DS (and will be compatible with the 3DS XL, of course).

The third game in the Art Academy series (after the DS title Art Academy and DSiWare game Art Academy: First Semester), New Art Academy promises to bring a whole host of new lessons to satiate and cultivate your artistic desires.

With 32 lessons spread over two difficulty settings - Introductory and Advanced - reference pictures in full 3D, and plenty more lessons promised in the future, New Art Academy isn't short of content.

Painter? I barely know her

If you're content to just doodle, the game also features a Free Paint mode where you can practise techniques or sketch a freehand drawing.

Should you then wish to share these sketches with friends, you can send them via SpotPass; via local wireless; or set up your own virtual art gallery and hand your buddy an invitation to view your masterpieces.

If simply sharing your creations isn't enough, you can also, for the first time, create your own interactive lessons and share them with your friends. First, you'll have to select a subject and technique to teach, mind.

Dust off your virtual easel in preparation - New Art Academy will launch on the 3DS on July 28th.
