Nintendo announced that it is working with DeNA on a new membership service that will replace Club Nintendo at a press conference in Tokyo today. It will launch this autumn.

The membership service, yet to be named, will encompass existing 3DS and Wii U systems, as well as PC, iOS and Android, and the NX.

The NX is the codename for Nintendo's next dedicated gaming system.

It was also announced today as a way to assuage fears that Nintendo was abandoning consoles after revealing its partnership with DeNA to produce original mobile games.

"Unlike the Club Nintendo membership service that Nintendo has been operating, the new membership service will include multiple devices and create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said.

This member service is said to be a core part of the NX. Unfortunately, more details on the NX won't arrive until 2016.

However, it was revealed that the new membership service will be compatible with Nintendo's first mobile games when they arrive this autumn.

Nintendo will have own and manage all the user data of this membership service. Some of this data will be shared with DeNA so that it can help produce Nintendo's mobile titles.

Both companies will be ensuring that this data is not used in a negative manner or for any other matter than stated.

Nintendo also hopes that this new membership service will help drive people towards the 3DS, Wii U, and NX.
