North Americans will find a new addition to the Nintendo 3DS eShop next week in the form of long-awaited 2D platformer Mutant Mudds.

Launching on January 26th for $8.99, the game sees you taking control of Max, a kid on a quest to save the world with his water pistol and water-powered jetpack.

The gameplay may look simple enough, but there's a twist - Max can jump between planes, either into the background or into the foreground. Naturally, this ability to shift between planes is only possible because of the handheld's stereoscopic 3D capabilities.

Due to his plane-switching 'talent', Max is able to forge his way around seemingly impassable obstacles and reach his goal. Looks like nifty stuff, and we can't wait to give it a whirl.

Hopefully, Mutant Mudds will get released in the European eShop sometime soon.
