Nintendo has revealed several new details of its upcoming serve-'em-up Mario Tennis Open, which is due to hit European 3DS handhelds on May 25th.

This upcoming sports title will allow you to play as one of the Mushroom Kingdom's famous inhabitants or your very own Mii character - who can be enhanced with special stat-boosting Mushroom Kingdom-themed items, such as a Bullet Bill outfit.

When Mario Tennis Open arrives, you'll be able to compete against computer-controlled AI opponents in a singles tennis match mode or jump into an online doubles match with up to three other players.

There will also be a Open Match mode, which will allow you to compete for leaderboard standings; and a Special Games mode, which will allow you to hone your tennis skills through Mario-inspired games.

Mario Tennis Open will hit the European 3DS market on May 25th, so pencil it into your diary.
