Rumour: Dragon Quest VII and VIII on 3DS might actually be heading west after all

Yuji Horii, the creator of the Dragon Quest series, apparently let it slip at Japan Expo in Paris that Dragon Quest VII and VIII on 3DS would be heading west.

The reports came in around the same time on Twitter from various people attending the event.

The first one to tweet it out was a translator and editor for fan site Final Fantasy World who reports that Horii said the games would be heading outside of Japan "in French."

Then French fan site Final Fantasy Ring tweeted the same thing.

A little later, an editor at Nova Crystallis also tweeted the news and added that the translator "got upset" when making the announcement.

If true, then if the game is heading outside of Japan in French, then it should also be coming to other countries in their native languages too.

Slip of the tongue

We reported on the 3DS re-release of the PS2 game Dragon Quest VIII earlier this year remarking that it probably wouldn't get an English version.

That was due to the previous Dragon Quest VII remake on 3DS only being in Japanese.

But if these reports are correct and Horii is telling the truth then all of what we speculated before may be balderdash.

Here's to hoping we get an official announcement on these localisations from Square Enix soon.

In the meantime, read up on the new features that are heading to the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII - includes new episodes and party members.
