Around this time last year, we heard an interesting rumour that a 3DS port of either Final Fantasy VII or Dragon Quest VII was in the works.

No one really knew which Japanese roleplaying game it would be, but they were all pretty sure that it involved the number seven.

Since that time, Square Enix confirmed that a 3D port of Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden would indeed come to the 3DS - in Japan, at least - and it released the first round of screenshots for the upcoming game.

Released in 2000 for the PS One, Dragon Quest VII is best remembered for its expansive storyline.

The main plot alone takes an estimated 100 hours to complete, and there are plenty of sidequests available as well.

The 3DS release of Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden features updated 3D graphics, and Siliconera reports that it will also have a fully remastered soundtrack recorded by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

Dragon Quest VII will come to the 3DS on February 7, 2013 in Japan. There is no word on whether this will be localized for the United States or Europe.
