Cave Story+ is coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop. No, not Cave Story for DSiWare. No, no, not Cave Story 3D for 3DS. This is the original 2D version of the game, but with stereoscopic 3D visuals.
OK, so all these versions of Cave Story are getting a bit confusing, and are perhaps overkill - but if you still haven't got around to playing the game, you need to take a good hard look at your life.
Have you been living in a cave?
In Cave Story+ (and Cave Story 3D and Cave Story), you control a nimble hero who wakes up on a strange island with no memory of how he got there or who he is. Cue an insanely long and exciting adventure with loads of enemies to blast and tons of secrets to find.
Tyrone Rodriguez, CEO of Cave Story publisher Nicalis, explained the reasoning behind yet another new version of the game.
"To be totally honest, the update is entirely for selfish reasons," he admitted. "I don't like playing DSiWare games on the 3DS, and I especially don't like playing Cave Story [for] DSiWare on my 3DS."
"Instead of being 16x16 pixels, the main character becomes 20x20 and the entire game is a bit blurry. Daisuke made some beautiful pixel art and I want to play it the right way. In a month or so, you'll see what I mean."
We'll let you know when it's ready to pop up on the eShop.
