And the rest... Valkyria Chronicles iOS, Avengers on sale, Miyamoto finally reveals Mario's last name
|

Afternoon, ladies and gents. Today, our biggest story has been the launch of EA's fully licensed footy game FIFA 13. Which is another way of saying it has been a slow news day.

Well, there is the new 'Kickstarter for games' website Gambitious, a Temple Run boardgame, and the impending release of Samsung's stylus-lovin' Galaxy Note 2, I suppose, but that's about it.

And then there are the stories that didn't quite warrant entire articles. Instead, we've listed them below in this little feature we like to call 'And the rest...'

New releases

Glu Mobile's latest Android title is Indestructible, a multiplayer car combat game with mean-looking vehicles that sport rocket launchers and machine guns. It's a free download, and available on the ol' Google Play Store right here.

Here's a cute new app from Armor Games. Infectonator turns the undead into cute bobble-head characters, and turns the zombie invasion into an addictive chain reaction mini-game. You'll take on humans all over the globe, and the survivors speak different languages in different countries. 69p / 99c, if you're interested.

In Japan, NHN Japan Corp has released an iOS version of its free Valkyria Chronicles spin-off, Duel Chronicles of the Battlefield. It's got tactical fights, town building, giant battlefields, and card trading. No stone has been left unturned here.

On the horizon

Bayonetta 2 developer Platinum Games is "very interested in the Nintendo 3DS," executive director Atsushi Inaba told Polygon. "Currently we have a lot of titles in development, and we can't fund a 3DS game ourselves," though. Boo.

3DS rhythm-action eShop title Harmo Knight might be released outside of Japan... if creator Game Freak has its way. "It's definitely something we'd like to do, but we're working out the details with Nintendo now," producer Junichi Masuda told IGN.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask will hit Nintendo 3DS on October 26th. If you can't wait that long, Nintendo has two demo puzzles on its site to give you a taste of the upcoming game.

Culture clash atr-mario

Mario does not have a last name, no matter what the awful Super Mario Bros. movie said. That final word comes from character creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who told Game Informer that "Mario is really just Mario and Luigi is really just Luigi."

Kickstart this

OreZom Trails is a zombie-themed parody of The Oregon Trail. Wait - we know what you're thinking: "That's Organ Trail, right?" Well, you're not wrong. This one is more cute and colourful, though. The team needs $5,000 to make it all happen.

Sales

Superhero slugger Avengers Initiative is on sale for £1.99 / $2.99 on iOS to celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray launch of Joss Whedon's Marvel-lous summer blockbuster. Right now, you only get to play as Bruce Banner's angry alter ego, but heroes like Captain America and Thor will be added as downloadable content later on.
