100% Platinum

When gold doesn't shine quite brightly enough

100% Platinum
|

Here at Pocket Gamer the Platinum Award is reserved for games that almost transcend the prosaic world of scores and reviews. Naturally they don’t come along very often (which is just as well or we’d be out of a job).

But there are other games like Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Crash!, Worms 2008 and even Deal or No Deal that don’t necessarily manage a universe-altering revolution, yet consistently return to our mobile phones and never lose their radiance.

This is another kind of platinum game - one with a lower case ‘p’, but still made of incredibly valuable material.

As much as we fawn over new innovation, without the infinitely playable stalwarts such as Tetris and Bejeweled, the mobile games industry would probably have collapsed a long time ago.

Their ability to sell more and more downloads - to the point at which it’s hard to believe that every mobile phone owner in the world doesn’t have two copies - are what make them precious, so we’re kicking off 2009 with a look at those recurring, 100% Platinum heroes.

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
