Going for gold

100% Gold Games
|

We don't pretend to be anything other than hopelessly addicted handheld gamers here at Pocket Gamer, but we've played enough mobile titles to have fathomed a pretty good notion of good and bad. So this week, 100% Mobile is here to celebrate Pocket Gamer's best of the best, with a rundown of 10 games that have bagged themselves one of our prestigious Gold Awards.

It takes a score of 9 out of 10 to land a Gold Award, and we're pretty stingy when it comes to giving them out. An excellent game can expect to get win a Bronze (7) or a Silver (8), but Gold titles have something different - these are games that have pushed boundaries, oozed ingenuity or excelled at refining a gaming genre in some profound or unique way.

We see a game like Peggle, and reward it for its remarkable creativity blended with gameplay perfectly crafted to the platform, while a title such as Table Tennis Star pushes the mobile to create a game closer to its inspirational sport than we ever thought possible.

We sometimes think there must be an upper limit to the resourcefulness and playability that developers can pour into the mobile platform, but as you can see from our list of 100% Gold Games, if there is a limit, it's nowhere in sight.

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
