GDC '09: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box within six months
Two mysteries solved, four to go
Following on from the puzzling sales success of Professor Layton and the Curious Village (puzzling not because it’s a bad game, but because it isn’t a blandly tasteful brain-training game), developer Level 5 has confirmed that the sequel will be with us in the west within the next six months.
Speaking from GDC in San Fransisco, Studio head Akihiro Hino assured members of the press that his localisation team was beavering away on translation of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.
Still, they’ve had plenty of time already. Assuming the game comes out at the tail end of that six month period, that would represent a wait of almost two years. The Japanese original came out in November 2007, and a third release (translated as The Final Time Journey) graced the game shops of Tokyo just a year later.
Hino wants to see all of the games in a planned series of six released in the west, so Level 5 has a bit of catching up to do.
