Michael Owen buddies up with Ronaldo as UK face of Pro Evo

Cunning Konami. Last week it was getting us all excited about Cristiano Ronaldo being the European face of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Now, it's pulled off some sort of Carlos Tevez ownership stunt and added Michael Owen to the cover art, associated promotional materials and marketing campaign for the UK release.

"Securing Michael Owen is a real coup for Konami," commented Jon Murphy, the impressively titled Pro Evolution Soccer team leader. "Since he burst on to the scene, he has proven himself an incredible goal-scorer, netting at every level both domestic and international. We are delighted to be working alongside such a talent on PES 2008."

Those with a reasonable memory will remember that it wasn't that long ago that Owen had his very own football game, Michael Owen's World League Soccer. Of course, that was back when he was actually regularly playing football.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is due to be released for DS and PSP during the autumn.
