Quietly, Apple has ramped up the pace of its iPod games release schedule, with several new games arriving in recent weeks. The latest is Pole Position Remix from Namco Networks America.

It's an update of the classic racer, with spangly new visuals to take advantage of the latest iPods. There are five 3D tracks to race on, all filled with oil slicks, puddles and rival drivers.

There are four game modes too: Practice, Single Race, Grand Prix and Sudden Death. As with all iPod games, you can listen to the game's own soundtrack, or use your own tunes as the background music.

Here's a cool feature though: the billboards on the track are customised according to your personal music collection. I'm really hoping this means zooming past giant posters of Nick Drake and Betty Boo, in my case.

Playing the game will unlock additional content, including themed graphics, cars and reversed versions of tracks. Check the last screenshot above - one of those themes appears to be a Wipeout-style futuristic theme!

Pole Position Remix is on sale now through the iTunes Store, for £3.99. If you need a direct link, click here.
