The Playdate handheld gaming system has announced its catalogue of new games for September, with a lineup of titles that go perfectly well with the upcoming Halloween festivities across the globe. In particular, Panic's on-device and web-based games store is adding Castle Tintagel, Crank Shaft, Pikki Rikki and more for players to get their hands on.

With the latest launch of new titles within Playdate, you can look forward to experiencing a "classicvania" action platformer within the retro-themed world of Castle Tintagel. On the other hand, Crank Shaft lets you manipulate a ball with a penchant for bouncing within a pseudo-3D puzzler.

As for You Cannot Go Back!, you can expect to put your reflexes to the test within a fast-paced adventure game. And if you're eager for something a little less spooky and a little more cutesy, Pikki Rikki is an adorable 2D platformer where you step into the paws of a fluffy bunny as you collect coins and pick plants (because why not?). Additionally, you can try your hand at the point-and-click mechanics of Pulpergeist, which was crafted with Playdate’s web-based game-making tool Pulp.

These titles are joining the lineup of games released earlier in the month, namely, Resonant Tale, Life's Too Short: A Christmas Spirit, IFO (this one lets you use the device's crank to take down pesky UFOs), Pulse, and Slitherlink PD.

If you're curious about the device itself, Playdate is available for pre-order at the moment for $199 from the official website, with an estimated shipping date in late 2023. The package includes a USB-C to USB-A cable along with more than 20 games. The new titles, on the other hand, are available from the official catalogue. In the meantime, if you're eager to ride that nostalgic wave with some old-school games on your phone, why not take a look at our list of the best retro games on iOS?
