No, they're not dead. They're just pining

We wrote about Petz a few months ago, when Gameloft first announced it, although at the time actual details were sketchy – we got little more than the fact that it was a virtual pet game featuring a dozen animals. Which? It didn't say.

Well, now we can reveal screenshots of the game, and more info on what furry little critters you'll be trying not to kill with carelessness.

However, three have already seemingly perished given that the number of animals has been reduced to nine – presumably camels, elephants and giraffes required too many pixels to make the final cut?

Anyway, you start with a puppy but as you play you unlock a cat, a rabbit, a hamster and other animals (there's a parrot in the game's title screen, which is something of a giveaway).

Your job is to feed, stroke and generally care for your pets, while training them up to be world champions at swimming, racing and climbing. (No, we didn't know parrots could swim, either.) There's also a pet shop to buy accessories for your animal chums.

More intriguingly, you have to house all the pets in your in-game abode, with some getting on (we assume this means hot interspecies love on the patio), and others not (fight! fight! fight!).

We're playing through the game now to unlock those extra animals and bring you a full review of Petz, so click 'Track It!' for an alert when it's published.
