PDC World Championship Darts 2008 confirmed for PSP
Press release does a 180 with regards to Sony's handheld
Professional darts is a dangerous activity. Nothing to do with having your aorta accidentally punctured by a stray pointy projectile, obviously – the players aren't exactly the aim-it-roughly-at-the-board-and-hope-for-the-best variety you get down your local pub.
No, the danger comes from accidentally coming across a televised darts competition while channel zapping. Because if you don't react quickly enough on the remote and move on, you'll be sucked in. Before you know it, you'd have lost two hours of your life.
Digital darts haven't always proved as compelling, although good virtual interpretations of the game do obviously exist. And Oxygen will obviously be hoping its forthcoming attempt, PDC World Championship Darts 2008, will be among those.
Initially announced for PS2 (pictured), PC and Wii, the latest press release also suggests a PSP version is on the way.
The game promises a faithful recreation of the event it's licensed from as well as a variety of other tournaments and additional modes. No details regarding the actual play mechanic have yet been divulged but clearly the game's success will pivot on that crucial element.
For now, of particular interest to darts fans will be the revelation that 16 real-world players are included in all their life-like glory. So whether it's Raymond 'The Man' van Barneveld, Peter 'One Dart' Manley, Dennis 'The Menace' Priestley or Phil 'The Power' Taylor (arguably the greatest darts player of all time) – to name but four – you're bound to find your darting idol.
PDC World Championship Darts 2008 is due for release on April 25th 2008.
