Ninjatown was a great tower defence-style game on the DS, and now Shawn Smith is bringing his Shawnimals range of plush characters onto iPhone with Ninjatown: Trees of Doom.

Like the DS version, it's being developer by Venan Entertainment, which most recently made the excellent Space Miner.

According to an interview with Smith in GamePro, he was inspired by games such as Doodle Jump and Canabalt.

"These games are so successful because they're a great blend of simple gameplay, and very striking design. I figured we could probably do that pretty well," he explained.

Through the foliage

Accordingly in Ninjatown: Trees of Doom, you control Wee Ninja who's trying to get as high as possible, jumping between the trucks of two trees.

You control his movement with swipes and flicks, bending back branches to get pinged higher. There are also power ups such as the fly-giving mucho macho Moustachio.

The game uses the Plus+ social network in terms of enabling you to post high scores .

It should be out in the next couple of weeks, priced at $1.99, €1.59 or £1.19.

However Smith has more ambitious plans too; notably remaking Ninjatown DS for iPad.

"Being able to go back to the original art and showcase it on that big screen would be a perfect project for us," he says.
