Now I wish I didn't spend so much money getting a Mini NES Classic

On September 18th, online multiplayer games will no longer be free on the Switch - sad, I know. If you want to play multiplayer over the internet you're going to have to subscribe to Switch Online, but at least there's a silver lining.

Along with this subscription, you also get access to 20 NES titles to play on the Switch at launch, as well as nine more games coming in the next few months.

River City Ransom, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, Tecmo Bowl, Double Dragon, and Yoshi are just a few of the games that were announced at the Direct, but you can see the full list from Nintendo's website.

The service will also be adding three more NES games for each month until December, so by the end of the year Switch Online will have 29 NES games in total.

Solomon's Key, NES Open Tournament Golf, and Super Dodge Ball will be on the Switch in October. Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, and TwinBee launches in November. And Wario's Woods, Ninja Gaiden, and Adventures of Lolo are available in December.

However, the games aren't exactly like how they were on the NES - they will also all have an online multiplayer function. You'll be able to play cooperative and competitive NES games with folks from anywhere in the world.

It was only a matter of time before Nintendo would follow suit with other platforms and require a subscription to play online, but at least having a large selection of classic game available to you eases the pain a little bit.

Plus, in comparison to other paid online services Nintendo's is quite a bit cheaper, for one month it cost £3.49/$3.99, three months is £6.99/$7.99, and for a full year is £17.99/$19.99.

You'll be able to reap the benefits of Switch Online when it is released this Tuesday on September 18th in the US and 19th elsewhere in the world.
