[Update] It gets worse for Oculus Rift's pre-orders, some hit by two month delay
|
Update on April 13 at 09:55: Oculus has provided us with the following statement:

"The component shortage impacted our quantities more than we expected, and we’ve updated the shipment window to reflect these changes. We apologize for the delay. We’re delivering Rifts to customers every day, and we’re focused on getting Rifts out the door as fast as we can. We’ve taken steps to address the component shortage, and we’ll continue shipping in higher volumes each week. We’ve also increased our manufacturing capacity to allow us to deliver in higher quantities, faster. Many Rifts will ship less than four weeks from original estimates, and we hope to beat the new estimates we’ve provided."

Seems like Oculus is trying to increase their production capacity and hopes to beat the estimations provided to customers. We'll see if they can fix this messy situation in time but they need to hurry up, as people are getting quite angry over the continued delays.

If you've pre-ordered an Oculus Rift, you must know about the recent woes that delayed the first shipments. Oculus blames it on a component shortage and offered free delivery for those affected.

Today people who pre-ordered received their estimated shipping date and it's about to get a lot worse.

Some who pre-ordered in six minutes or less aren't getting it before the end of April or at the beginning of May and those who pre-ordered after (but still in the first hour) aren't due for a delivery until June.

That's more than two month after the promised March 28 launch and it's quite disappointing that this shortage wasn't handled (or planned) better by Oculus. It could also hurt VR in the long run as people could cancel their orders after such a messy situation.

Let's hope it will get better from there.
