HTC Japan president says HTC Vive Pre price will be announced at Mobile World Congress
|

I've been burnt by this before - sure that Gabe Newell would be announcing the price of the HTC Vive Pre when he took the stage (by giant video screen) at Vision Summit only for him to announce everyone was getting a Vive - "his own personal Opera moment"

This time looks right though, I promise. Japanese blog media "S-Max" has posted an article about the HTC Vive Pre with an exclusive interview for HTC Japan's president Hiroshi Tamano.

If you're fortunate enough to speak the language, you can see the original post, but if not we've managed to translate some of the important quotes below

"When we asked about the plans for selling HTC Vive in Japan, we were told that they expect the reservation date, shipping date, product name etc. to be the same as the global launch" "To start with, they'll sell it from the direct 'HTC e-shop' site, but plan to expand the places where you can buy it after that." "They said they'll announce the price at MWC. Nonetheless, they recognise that it won't sell if the price is excessively high, so they're going to set the price so that it's not unreasonable when compared to the competitor's products."

It all looks pretty conclusive and seems to indicate the price won't be too high, potentially ruling Editor Mark Brown out of our Vive price sweepstakes.

Thanks to Reddit for pointing this out, and my friend Ed for retranslating the quotes to make sure I had the right idea.
