A major sticking point with wearable technology is that it also needs to appeal to the fashion guru within us.

No matter how functional that smartwatch might be, if it looks like a turd on a gold strap, we're not going to wear it.

Merge Labs has arrived on the scene with a new smartphone face case virtual reality headset that, whether it's to everyone's taste or not, at least aims to make a fashion statement.

No purple-headed warrior jokes, please

Not only does the 'marshmallow soft' Merge Goggles boast a very unique look, it also comes complete with a feature no other VR headset - whether dedicated or smartphone-driven - has yet included. A controller.

This brand new head-mounted display (HMD), which just went on pre-order, is bundled with a Wii nunchuck-like, 9-axis, motion sensitive controller that promises to deliver a more ergonomic method of interacting with the world inside the headset.

This Merge Grip controller will connect using Bluetooth LE, so if it's SDK is implemented properly by the devs, it'll connect automatically with your smartphone, no mess and no fuss.

The Merge Goggles itself is being made from foam rubber, making it very light, and according to its creators, very durable and comfortable.

Pre-orders are open at $99, with a launch date expected sometime within 2015.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
