Proven Lands is a sci-fi sandbox roguelike with a lot of potential.

I've said this much before when gazing at its beautiful, procedurally generated alien landscapes.

The idea is that you've crash landed on a strange planet, and have to make use of the resources you scrounge to survive. Unless you want to die alone, that is.

Developer Thesetales has a formula to help explain what its game is. Take the best bits of Don't Starve and Project Zomboid, and add a pinch of "real science" to the pot, and you have Proven Lands.

That's another way of saying you have to learn the real mysteries of physics, chemistry, and biology while playing. You'll meet hostile alien creatures, construct a spaceship, and maybe even meet advanced civilisations to fight for and trade with.

If you like exploring, farming, crafting, occasionally battling, and managing oxygen supplies, Proven Lands is worth a once over. Plus, you get a pet space cat, which is all I need to hear to be sold on the concept.

Right now it's up on Kickstarter where thesetales is looking for £299,000 to finish up the game.

The plan is to bring Proven Lands out episodically, with the first episode arriving on iOS in the second quarter of 2015. Android players will be served after that.

For a pledge of £9 you can get a copy of Proven Lands on the platform of your choice.
