Google startup Niantic Labs has teamed up with book publisher HarperCollins to produce a mobile game based on James Frey's upcoming Endgame trilogy.

The plan is to build this new Endgame-based game on top of Niantic's location-based multiplayer augmented reality game Ingress.

This means that the story will be taken from Frey's trilogy of books and woven into Ingress's fictional take on reality.

The Endgame stories are a little like The Hunger Games novels, by the way. In the former, readers follow champions from 12 bloodlines training and then fighting one another to the death.

HarperCollins describes Endgame as "a fully integrated multimedia experience that will combine a trilogy of young adult novels; 15 original e-book novellas; YouTube videos; search and image results; mapping coordinates; social media; and interactive gaming in one revolutionary creative project."

Gold-digger

HarperCollins will publish the first book in the series, Endgame: The Calling, on October 7th. There will be riddles and puzzles within the text that, when solved, will lead to a pile of gold encased in bulletproof glass.

Google plans on streaming the whole event live on YouTube so you can see the person who finds the gold first.

Obviously, only those residing in the same city as the gold will be able to find it. Well, unless you're dedicated enough to travel long distances, I suppose.

There will similar tie-in events at the launches of the other two books in the Endgame trilogy.
