Contra: Evolution Revolution blasts onto the Chinese App Store
Probotector resurrected
Unless you're the jailbreaking, ROM-hacking type (and we're going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you're not), your iPhone is currently a Contra-free zone.
Unless, of course, you live in China and happen to have visited the App Store today.
Yup, you guessed it: Konami has released an iOS version of its beloved NES shooter Contra.
Entitled Contra: Evolution Revolution, this iPad- and iPhone-compatible remake of the infamously tough multiplayer platformer appears to be a relatively faithful port of the original 1988 classic.
Naturally, the graphics have been given a 21st-century overhaul, meaning we can now gaze in appreciation at the high-resolution manliness of Mad Dog's heroic biceps.
The soundtrack has been spruced up a bit, too, though we can still recognise Hidenori Maezawa's epic 8-bit anthem underneath all those bells and whistles.
According to its App Store listing, Contra: Evolution Revolution has been developed by Beijing Chukong Aipu Technology, presumably with permission from Konami.
However, when we contacted Konami regarding Contra: Evolution Revolution, its representative was hesitant to comment.
We hope Konami is being coy because it's hard at work on the English-language version of Contra: Evolution Revolution and doesn't want to spoil the surprise. No guarantee, mind.
Don't be coy, Konami. We hate surprises. But, we love Contra.
