French publisher Ubisoft has released a free iPhone and iPad app to promote its upcoming undead-filled survival-horror Wii U title ZombiU.

This iOS app, which is also called ZombiU, has been designed as a survival tool of sorts.

Basically, it contains two different gadgets: a handy Infection Simulator that allows you to learn about the flesh-eating virus that's quashed the population of London, and a recorder that lets you leave emergency messages for your friends.

Transformational media

The Infection Simulator enables you to snap a shot of your ugly mug, and then sit back and watch as it slowly but surely transforms your disease-ridden mush into a sight that wouldn't look out of place in The Walking Dead.

After seven different stages, this transformation is complete. All of these steps, by the way, are accompanied by a brief description of the painful side effects you experience as your body begins to shut down. Lovely.

You can then share the simulator's results with the rest of the world via Facebook, Twitter, and email.

Is anybody there?

Once you've finished turning yourself and your friends into walking corpses, you can record an emergency message to let your loved ones know that you're safe, well, and unbitten. For the time being.

You can then upload your brief video masterpiece to Facebook and YouTube, if you wish.

Finally, the app features links to ZombiU's official website, a pre-order page, and Nintendo's Wii U website. It's all fun and games.
