[Update] Your iOS or Android Game of the Week - Arc Squadron
|
| Arc Squadron
Updated on November 5th, at 14:00: A previous version of this article insinuated that our Facebook poll was unfairly "gamed" to give Arc Squadron the win. Turns out, on closer inspection, that the space shooter won the poll fair and square.

Apologies to all involved - edited article follows.

One of our jobs here at Pocket Gamer Towers is to sieve through the hundreds of apps that hit the App Store and Google Play every single day and unearth the gems.

Lately, though, we've been giving you, our awfully handsome readers (have you lost weight?), the chance to have your say, too, via our iOS and Android Game of the Week poll.

This week's winner, with a landslide number of votes, is Arc Squadron.

Arc Squadron is, basically, StarFox by way of Rez. Sure, it's a space shooter with hurtling great asteroids, laser-guided missiles, and enemy spaceships, but it's also about scores.

You earn points by chaining together combos, gunning down every enemy in a fleet, and skilfully piloting your ship into space cubes.

These points aren't just there for bragging about, of course. You can trade them in for cash, which you can use to upgrade your ship. Handy when the 60-odd levels start to get a lot tougher.

You can grab Arc Squadron from the App Store for £2.99 / $4.99.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted on home console is built by one of the greatest racing game devs around - Burnout creator Criterion. Only fair, then, that the iOS and Android version is given to a master of mobile racing.

Real Racing team manager FireMonkeys has taken the core of Most Wanted - fast cars, close races, and nuisance coppers - and packed this super-concentrated formula into an app.

So, there's no open world to faff about in. Just tense race after tense race, with outstanding graphics and some of the sharpest handling on a mobile racer.

You can grab Need for Speed: Most Wanted - if you can catch it, that is - from the iOS App Store for £4.99 / $6.99, or from Google Play for £4.79 / $7.06.
