Best known for its very successful PC and iOS series Diner Dash, US publisher PlayFirst is now releasing what it hopes will be its next big thing.

Called Mall Stars, it has you building up your own shopping mall, stocking it with your favourite products and attractions.

So far, so ShopVille...

Hey, big spender

The trick of the game, however, is that you have to attract VIPs - the stars of the title - to your mall, and get them so excited, they break out their black American Express cards in an orgy of shopping frenzy that gains you special bonuses.

Each star has their own special needs, so you'll have to work hard to get them spending.

The game launches with 10 stars, each of which have their own style and back story. These include reality show starlet Cathy Cashian, sports legend Duncan, and king of the hip hop scene Dee Jay Beats.

Remind you of anyone in particular?

Just for you

Another significant move is what PlayFirst is calling its StarRequest framework, which is an intelligent recommendation engine that delivers players' a customised experience based on their progress.

Free-to-play and out today for iPhone and iPad, you can get an idea how Mall Stars plays in the following video.
