Moshi Monsters sets a new UK sales record on Nintendo DS

Moshi Monsters sets a new UK sales record on Nintendo DS

The Nintendo DS may have already been pushed aside by its three-dimensional successor, but that doesn't mean it's going down without a fight, for DS games are regularly showing up in the UK's top 40 chart each week (albeit down at the bottom end).

This week, Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo from Mind Candy set a new record for Nintendo DS sales in the UK, having sat at the top of the DS charts for 15 weeks in a row.

The record of 14 weeks on the trot had previously been held by Nintendo-published Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, so for a third-party developer to take the crown is a noteworthy achievement.

In case you're not down with the kids (and we're talking the very young kids), Moshi Monsters is a virtual pet game in which you adopt and tend to your creatures while solving puzzles along the way.

In response to Moshi Monsters: Moshling Zoo clocking up 15 consecutive weeks at the top of the UK charts, Mind Candy CEO Michael Acton Smith said, "This is the first video game we've ever published at Mind Candy so we're delighted and amazed by how well it has done. We're lucky to have such a passionate fanbase of Moshi players."
