Nintendo's Satoru Iwata confirms 3DS titles will soon be downloadable from the eShop

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata confirmed during this week's financial briefing that his company will soon offer the ability to download 3DS titles, starting with upcoming platformer New Super Mario Bros. 2.
"With this software, we will initiate the so-called digital download sales, or the digital distribution of packaged software, in addition to the sales of packaged software through the existing distribution channels," he said.
"In principle, starting from this software, the company will offer the software titles that Nintendo itself publishes in both packaged and digital download formats so that our consumers can choose the way to purchase them."
Nintendo also highlighted the fact that you'll be able to purchase download codes from participating retailers, which can be used to download a copy of the title from the 3DS's eShop.
It doesn't look like Nintendo will be marking down the price of its digitally distributed software, but retailers will be able to charge as little as they like for download codes.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is slated for a worldwide release this August.
