Toshiba thinks bigger really is better with announcement of the 13-inch Android Excite

Looks like the size war (that I have just made up) is in full swing on Android at the moment, and Toshiba's newly announced 13-inch Excite tablet is ready to take on all-comers.

Yes: 13 inches.

Toshiba's gigantic 1600x900 Android Ice Cream Sandwich touchscreen slate is powered by Nvidia's Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, and - in a rare move - comes with four speakers, rather than the industry norm of two or (in the iPad's case) one.

Excited?

Naturally, the big draw is the sheer size of the 16:9 screen, which is probably going to cause a few issues for those that like to hold their tablets vertically (me).

Toshiba will also be launching more standard 7- and 10-inch versions of the Excite tab, both packing the same internals as the 13-inch model but with lower resolution displays.

All three machines will launch in the US between May and June, starting with the Excite 10. If you're interested in picking up the entry-level 32GB 13-inch model, expect to pay around $649.99 for the privilege.
