Legendary trap-'em-up Spy vs. Spy heading to iOS this summer
If you don't succeed at first... Spy, Spy again
Earlier this week, we received a slightly cryptic communiqué from a PR firm which stated that "an IP of some kind is returning from a long time away, though it may just be a simple black or white issue".
Attached to this missive was the image you see below, which appeared to give the 'game' away, so to speak.
Yes, that's right, First Star Software's cult trap-'em-up classic Spy vs. Spy is stealthily sneaking back into the public eye.
While we recovered from this minor bombshell, a teaser trailer for the game surfaced on YouTube. Alas, it has subsequently been pulled.
Before it disappeared, though, we watched it a few (dozen) times in the office. We couldn't fail to notice, then, the confirmation at the end of the trailer that Spy vs. Spy will be heading to the iPhone and iPad this summer.
The original Spy vs. Spy game was, of course, developed by First Star Software in 1984, and was based on MAD Magazine's long-running comic strip of the same name.
It saw two spies - identical bar the fact one wore black and one wore white - engage in a seemingly never-ending war of attrition involving weird and wacky contraptions and traps.
Bombs awayFrom the aforementioned trailer and image, we were also able to glean the name of the developer responsible for this iOS version of Spy vs. Spy. Robots and Pencils, best known for Catch The Princess, is the developer, while Warner Bros. is on publishing duties.
Spy vs. Spy is set to launch on the App Store for iPhone and iPad at some point this summer.
