Apple increases its iPhone and iPad over-the-air download limit from 20MB to 50MB

Apple has increased its 20MB over-the-air download limit for the App Store to 50MB, meaning you can now nab larger applications and games over both 3G and 4G networks.

The Cupertino-based company has likely made this change to accommodate large apps that are designed to utilise the Retina display of 'the new iPad', which was officially revealed yesterday in San Francisco.

As you can see from the screenshot in our gallery to the right, if you try to download an application that's bigger than 50MB, you'll receive a pop-up message that tells you to connect to wi-fi or iTunes.

Apple isn't the only company making changes to app store limits this week, though: Google recently upped the maximum size limit for Google Play Store applications from 50MB to a whopping 4GB.

Previously, if you downloaded an Android app that broke the 50MB limit, you'd have to download the additional content from the developer's own servers.
