Crysis developer's first mobile game will be physics-based puzzler Fibble Flick Rock 'n' Roll
Crysis? What Crysis?
In fairness to Crytek (Crysis, Far Cry), trying to develop graphically rich first-person shooters for the mobile market has rarely succeeded in the past, with most stumbling on the touchscreen before landing face first in a pit of mediocrity.
Still, it's somewhat of a surprise to discover that the first mobile title from the renowned PC and console FPS developer won't involve shooting things.
In fact, it doesn't seem to include any form of guns, at all.
Make mobile game. ProphetUnveiled at GDC this year, Fibble Flick Rock 'n' Roll revolves instead around a "cute but brave extraterrestrial explorer" called Fibble, who bounds around physics-based puzzles.
"The way that people play games on mobile devices is a real blessing," Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told Develop. "This allows us to get back to our roots, experiment and focus our energy on creating great gameplay experiences while still keeping Crytek's high production values."
Those high-production values, however, don't involve anything to do with the CryEngine, which is still rumoured to be used for mobile games at some point in the future. Still, the game does look rather attractive from the screenshots posted so far.
We'll find out if Fibble Flick Rock 'n' Roll has both beauty and brains when it launches on "smartphones" (likely iOS and Android) later this spring.
While you're waiting for that, then, check out the official teaser trailer below.
