Samsung's Galaxy S II named world's best smartphone at Global Mobile Awards
Samsung wins Device Manufacturer of the Year award
Earlier this week at the GSM Association's Global Mobile Awards, Samsung's Galaxy S II beat off competition from Apple's iPhone 4S to be named the world's best smartphone.
The South Korea-based electronics company also managed to nab the award for Device Manufacturer of the Year.
"We are pleased to receive this honor from GSMA and believe that it's a testament to Samsung's innovation, quality products, and attention to consumer preferences," JK Shin, Samsung's mobile boss, said.
"We sold over 97 million smartphones in 2011, demonstrating that this is the right approach."
More to come
Naturally, given the success of the Galaxy S line, there have been plenty of rumours regarding the release of the S II's successor.
The Galaxy S III is purported to arrive in May packing an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, an S-AMOLED display, and Android Ice Cream Sandwich.
