Asus rolling out Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for original Transformer tablet by 'early February'

It looks like owners of Asus's original Transformer tablet will have to wait a little longer for an Android Ice Cream Sandwich software update, after some date-related confusion on Asus's Facebook page.

We reported last week on the Taiwanese company's plans to bring Android 4.0 to its recently released quad-core Transformer Prime tablet on January 12th.

The announcement prompted some owners of the original (dual-core) Transformer to enquire about when they might expect the updated OS to arrive on their older tablets.

Asus Singapore responded, saying: "it will be getting the update [on January 12th] as well."

First-date jitters

While this must have been a welcome surprise to owners of Asus's older tablet, their excitement was cut short when Asus Singapore retracted the statement, stating that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the original Transformer will be available "around the end of this month".

Seeking confirmation of this new date, Android Police contacted Asus directly, and was subsequently furnished with another new date.

According to Android Police's favourite Asus US rep, owners of the original Transformer can expect to receive their Ice Cream Sandwich update in early February. Only a little bit later than previously stated.

Muddled though the announcement may have been, it is still encouraging to see that Asus is making the effort to keep its older tablets up to date on the firmware front.
