E3 2011: Professor Layton and the Last Specter confirmed with spooky new shots and trailer
Ghostly goings-on in puzzling prequel
Following the recent reveal of a trademark registration for Professor Layton and the Last Specter on DS, it came as no real surprise to us when a new trailer and shots emerged for the gentlemanly sleuth's latest adventure.
Though perhaps 'latest' is the wrong word, for Last Specter is actually - as the trailer slightly confusingly puts it - "the first chapter of the Layton Saga". In other words, it's a prequel.
The game tells the story of how Hershel first took apprentice Luke under his wing, while uncovering the secret behind a mysterious spirit haunting the village of Mist Haley.
Expect "a baffling number of puzzles" interspersed with a gripping plot and even more fully animated cutscenes in a game that was regarded upon its Japanese release as the best Layton game to date.
It's not yet clear whether London Life, the 100-hour RPG which unlocks once you've completed the Japanese version of the game, will be localised - so far Nintendo hasn't released any further information on the new game.
If your mind is as astute as Layton's, you'll surely have guessed by now that an E3 trailer awaits below. And you can also examine the first official screens in our gallery.
