Apple reveals most successful iOS apps ever

In anticipation of the ten billionth app to be downloaded from its App Store, Apple has revealed the most successful apps ever to be released for iPhone and iPad.

Four lists have been released showing the top ten free and paid apps for both devices.

Doodle Jump is the most successful paid-for app ever, ahead of Angry Birds which could only reach number four in the list. Games made a strong showing, with Flight Control and Tap Tap Revenge 3 just two of the nine games that made it onto the top ten paid-for iPhone app list. It's a rather different story when it comes to free iPhone apps. Facebook is unsurprisingly the most successful free app ever, while Paper Toss is the only game listed in the top ten.

Soundhound heads the paid-for iPad app list, putting it ahead of such luminaries as iFart Mobile. Here are the full lists: Top 10 Paid iPhone Apps of All Time
